Alliance AES Press Release

New Alliance AES encryption software helps Enterprise users of IBM AS/400 and iSeries computer systems secure sensitive data and meet government privacy mandates.

For immediate release

OLYMPIA, Washington, March 23, 2004 –. Today Patrick Townsend & Associates, Inc. announces new encryption security software for users of IBM AS/400 and iSeries computer systems. The new software is provided in the Alliance suite of products and is based on the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES), an encryption method adopted by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).  Users of the new Alliance security software can secure sensitive data in relational DB2 tables, distribute data in self-decrypting archives, secure printed reports for transmission over the Internet, and integrate strong encryption technology into their line-of-business applications.

Patrick Townsend, President of Patrick Townsend & Associates, said “The new Alliance encryption software extends our focus on helping IBM AS/400 customers secure sensitive data and meet federal and state mandates for privacy. Alliance customers can now use strong 256-bit encryption to secure information in DB2 databases, securely distribute data and reports over the Internet, and manage AES keys in a secure and user-friendly way. Our Enterprise customers are concerned about meeting the security requirements of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, the California security notification law, and the medical privacy requirements of HIPAA. This enhancement to our AS/400 security suite will help AS/400 customers meet those challenges.”

The new Alliance AES software will help customers encrypt sensitive database information such as social security numbers, credit card numbers, and personal information. Existing applications can be easily modified to implement encryption with minimal or no changes to the relational database. The Alliance software is designed to provide strong security even when used with very small amounts of data such as a PIN code.

In addition to database security, the new Alliance AES software supports encrypting files and reports for secure distribution over the Internet or for off-line storage. Files can be automatically packaged into self-decrypting archives which can be executed on Microsoft Windows PCs or servers. The advantage of self-decrypting archives is that the recipient does not need to install any additional software. The Alliance self-decrypting archive validates the security information and decrypts the file automatically.

Alliance AES encryption is provided as an integral component of the Alliance FTP Manager product. Information on ordering and pricing is available on the Townsend web site at http://www.patownsend.com, or by calling (360) 357-8917.
