Alliance AES Encryption for UNIX

Alliance AES Encryption for UNIX provides strong encryption for AIX and Solaris platforms. Alliance supports 128-bit, 192-bit and 256-bit encryption using all of the standard NIST modes of encryption. Enterprise customers running AIX or Solaris can deploy the Alliance solution to meet regulatory requirements such as PCI, Sarbanes-Oxley, HIPAA, Privacy Notification, and GLBA.

Regulatory standards

AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) has been adopted as a standard by the US government and many state and local agencies. AES encryption technology has been incorporated into many data security products. The National Institute of Standards and Technology has codified AES encryption as FIPS-197.  For credit card security, AES is one of the recommended encryption methods of the Payment Card Industry (PCI) standard. AES meets the requirements of strong encryption defined by the California privacy notification act (SB1386) and similar state notification laws. AES encryption also satisfies the data security requirements of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) for the medical industry.

Encryption modes

Alliance AES Encryption for UNIX supports all of the NIST approved modes of operation including Electronic Code Book (ECB), Cipher Block Chaining (CBC), Counter (CTR), Cipher Feed Back (CFB), and Output Feed Back (OFB). By supporting all of the NIST modes of encryption you have the greatest flexibility and range of capabilities for your encryption needs.

DB2 field encryption
Alliance AES Encryption for UNIX includes Application Program Interfaces (APIs) to enable encrypting and decrypting individual columns in a DB2 database. These APIs are ideal for encrypting credit card numbers, social security numbers, or other sensitive information in your database. The DB2 field encryption APIs are compatible with Alliance AES encryption on all of the other supported platforms including Microsoft Windows, Linux, IBM System i (AS/400, iSeries), and IBM System z (Mainframe, S/390).

Oracle field encryption

Alliance AES Encryption for UNIX includes Application Program Interfaces (APIs) to enable encrypting and decrypting individual columns in an Oracle database. These APIs are ideal for encrypting credit card numbers, social security numbers, or other sensitive information in your database. The Oracle field encryption APIs are compatible with Alliance AES encryption on all of the other supported platforms including Microsoft Windows, Linux, IBM System i (AS/400, iSeries), and IBM System z (Mainframe, S/390). You can use these APIs in place of the built-in Oracle encryption to achieve maximum compatibility across all server platforms.

Key management
Alliance AES Encryption for UNIX can be used with third party key management solutions such as nCipher keyAuthority and RSA Key Manager. By combining Enterprise key management with Alliance AES Encryption for UNIX you can achieve the best implementation for strong encryption and strong key management.
