Fiserv Specialty Insurance was transmitting a large file from the System i to their bank every evening. The transfer was taking 12 hours using dial BSC communications. When the dial connection failed the file had to be re-transmitted and access to the system was delayed. To accomplish the integration with their System i applications IBM needed two technologies: PGP encryption for secure transfer of settlement data, and Triple DES encryption for HTTPS access to Checkfree systems.
