Alliance
EDI Workbench/400
Alliance
EDI Workbench/400 provides the EDI translation
functions you need to create ANSI X.12 documents from
your AS/400 data, and to import ANSI X.12 documents to
your AS/400 database. EDI
Workbench/400 does not include communications support.
If you need communications support there are several
Alliance products that provide this.
When combined with an Alliance communications
product you will have a complete EDI eCommerce
solution.

automation
Alliance
FTP Manager provides an Enterprise solution for
automating the transfer of database and spool files
using FTP (File Transfer Protocol). FTP Manager can
send EDI files to your trading partners, and can
receive and automatically process EDI files you
receive. You can communicate directly with trading
partners over the Internet, a private TCP network, or
dial PPP connection. Alliance FTP Manager can also
exchange files with major value added networks such as
IBM Global Network, AT&T Global Network, AllTel,
GE, and other networks. FTP Manager also can send
files to banks for credit card settlement, or to
Western Union EasyPay for bill payment.

electronic mail you can use the Alliance SMTP and POP
client applications. If you are using Alliance FTP
Manager you have APIs to send and receive email with
attachments. Or
you can use Alliance NetSend to send email messages
with MIME attachments. If you need to receive email
messages you can use Alliance NetReceive to pull
messages from a POP server. Alliance email APIs
support all types of binary and text attachments and
are fully compatible with Internet mail systems, AOL,
and all mail servers.

TCP/IP
Sockets
For
real-time EDI processing you can use Alliance Series
TCP/IP for sockets client and server applications.
Alliance Series TCP/IP uses data queues to send and
receive data. Your applications do not need to know
how to do sockets communications. You can receive EDI
data through the sockets interface, write the data to
a file, and process the data into your business
applications. When
sending data via TCP sockets Alliance will convert the
data to ASCII and insure complete communications.

If you need assistance setting up your IBM
Global Network we can work with IBM to create the
account and enable it for your trading partners.

Virtual
Private Networks (VPN)
For
security you can create a Virtual Private Network
between your AS/400 and another other system on the
Internet or private network.
From V4R4 the AS/400 has supported the IPSec
standard for VPN connectivity.
You can also implement VPN connections using
your network router, gateway, or VPN gateway device.
VPN connections are inexpensive and protect all
traffic between two systems including FTP and Telnet
connections. [top]
